Mrs Joanne Moloney

The following was read as our Morning Prayer this morning

Over the weekend we heard the sad news that the mum of two of our students sadly passed away. Micah and Saoirse Moloney’s mum, Joanne died peacefully on Saturday.

When we hear news like this it reminds us once again that we are all part of one school community and when one of us suffers a loss, we all feel the pain. Like a pebble dropped into a pond, the ripples of grief can be felt by us all.

The poet David Harkins writes beautifully when he says that although incredibly painful, when we lose someone we love

You can shed tears that they are gone
or you can smile because they lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that they’ll come back
or you can open your eyes and see all they left.

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see them
or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and focus on only yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember them and only that they’re gone
or you can cherish their memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back
or you can do what they’d want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Today we remember Micah, Saoirse and the entire Moloney family and their friends. We ask God to be with them all at this difficult time. May perpetual light shine upon Joanne and may her soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace Amen.
